I was up extra early this morning and pacing like a caged tiger by 6:30am anticipating 9am, the hour my gym opens. Fortunately, the morning was glorious. The hills beckoned to me, enticing me to roam instead. In Hergiswil, it is hard not to feel ensorcelled by Mother Nature. The spring palette is so utterly surreal that I often laugh out-loud in awe at my surroundings. Unfortunately, this is not conducive to a vigorous workout unless endless smiling and laughter burn calories!
When I am not gawking at the scenery I am tickled to be able to greet the cows, newly returned to their fields, and other youngsters making their 2012 debut. It’s hard to feel tense or blue when immersed in such youthful energy, buckets of “cuteness” and fields of rainbows. Although I did not get the workout for my body that I desperately needed, I did get a dose of “happy” for my soul.
Whereas Hergiswil may not be as popular a destination as Lucern or Zug; if being outdoors and enjoying nature is your interest, Hergiswil is a gem, less people and stunning terrain! There are many hiking trails that can be found on the Lopper and throughout the eastern lowlands of Mount Pilatus. From the Hergiswil Train Station , you have the option of hiking directly up to Alpgeschwänd . From here, you can take the tram; dine at the restaurant and/or continue your meandering higher up on Pilatus. If you prefer to stay low, consider the a route along the Lopper over the Rengpass towards Stanstaad. Happy Exploration!
